Do Philly Sports Teams Have The Shadiest Medical Staffs In All Of The Land? The Answer Is Well...Maybe

So earlier today, Jason Myrtetus from 97.5 threw this little report out there on the Twitter machine.

I’m a big fan of Jason and have absolutely zero reason to believe that he’d ever purposely throw false information out there. Now do I trust his source? Well I don’t even know who his source is so I don’t exactly know if I can trust them or not. It’s an aggressively serious accusation but if he’s right and this is actually the case? If the Eagles hid medical information from Carson Wentz and sent him out there to play with a fractured back? Well then everybody involved in that situation should be fired on the spot,  and those doctors should either be thrown in jail or at the very least never allowed to practice again. That’s not saying that you should believe that report but if you combine said report with this video from Emmanuel Acho…

…it at least doesn’t seem completely impossible. Now keep in mind, the medical staff that Acho is talking about is no longer the same medical staff with the Eagles. They team brought in new people this year. But it still just doesn’t seem completely 100% impossible. Maybe 75% impossible, but not 100%. Which is an issue because you should immediately be able to shoot down an accusation like that. If you can’t immediately say, “there’s not a single chance that something like that could ever take place”, that’s an issue. It’s like if somebody was asked if they thought you were capable of murdering somebody. The answer is hopefully no right away, but if they have to hesitate a little? Maybe there’s something wrong with you. Just as maybe there is something wrong with the Eagles’ medical staff. I’m not saying that I totally believe the report that the Eagles knew about this injury ahead of time and have been hiding it from Carson. But I just don’t think for certain at this point that I can say “no fucking chance is that real”. But now let’s go to the other side here and assume that Jason Myrtetus’ source is wrong. Let’s say that this wasn’t actually the case and this Carson Wentz injury saga was purely based on ignorance rather than negligence. Let’s just go off of the report from Rapoport.

Now the good news here is that Carson Wentz doesn’t need surgery. This is an injury that can heal on its own as long as the Eagles shut him down for the rest of the year. Which, like I said yesterday, is the best decision to make anyway. But even with that being the case, what in the actual heck have the Eagles’ medical staff been looking at because this news only came out after Carson Wentz went to an outside doctor for a 2nd opinion. Is there a chance that his back wasn’t fractured until just recently and there would have been zero fracture for the Eagles’ staff to see in the first place? Absolutely. Which you can’t really fault the medical staff for, but is there also a chance that Carson Wentz has been playing with a fractured vertebrae and the Eagles’ doctors just flat out missed it? Again, you can’t immediately shoot down that possibility which is an issue. And that’s just how things have gone in Philly over the last 5 or so years.

Think about everything that was shady about how the Sixers were handling Joel Embiid at the beginning of his career. Think about how the Sixers didn’t announce until months later that Zhaire Smith would be out until at least 2019 because a peanut allergy slowed up his rehab process. Think about everything that has been going on with the Markelle Fultz situation. Think about how nobody knows just what in the hell is going on with Chris Maragos or Mack Hollins. Think about what Emmanuel Acho said. And now think about how this Carson Wentz injury is being handled.

There is just a lot of shady shit that goes down with the Philly sports medical staffs. Way too much shady shit for it all to just be coincidence. Do I think that some things are a little less nefarious than others? Surely. I’m also incredibly impressed by myself that I knew to use the word “nefarious” properly there. Props to me. But when you have this much shady shit go down all in the span of just a few years, something has to be off. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and where there’s fire, there is a Philly sports team trying to cover up injury news. Transparency and Philly sports teams go together like meatballs and spicy mustard. If I’m a pro athlete in Philly, I think I just stick with my own primary care physician.

Now if you want my super spicy 5-alarm fire hot take on this entire situation, here it goes–I think when all the smoke clears and we finally figure out what actually happened here, the truth will be somewhere in the middle. Thank you for listening.
